Energy Efficiency Assessment
Energy efficiency advice in the region is delivered through a partnership between Leeds, Bradford and Hull Councils. The funding of the partnership is supported nationally by the Energy Saving Trust (EST) and operated through the Leeds Bradford and Hull Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (EEAC).
A team of trained advisors at the EEAC can provide free and impartial advice over the phone or in writing, and they can tailor the information specifically to your home. They can also tell you about any aspect of Energy Efficiency including information on special offers and grants in your area.
Please call them on Freephone 0800 512012.
Home Energy Check (HEC's)
There are many ways of saving energy around your home, but where is the best place to invest?
By completing a DIY Home Energy Check (HEC) questionnaire and returning it back, Freepost, to the EEAC. They will then supply a free report on the energy efficiency of your home. The evaluation will provide a guide to which products to install to gain the maximum savings on your fuel bills.
If you would prefer the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre to complete the questionnaire for you, then ring their Freephone number (0800 512012) and your local Energy Efficiency Advisor will go through the questions with you over the phone.
This is free service; there are no hidden costs or commitments.
How energy efficient is your home?
By undertaking a Government approved Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) you will receive an energy rating between 1 and 120. The higher the score the less energy and money is being wasted.
A score between 60 and 80 is regarded as having good energy efficiency, but older houses are likely to score between 20 and 40.
For further details call Freephone 0800 512012 for your Efficiency Advisor who may be able to offer an energy/SAP rating of your home once a DIY Home Energy Check has been completed. Alternatively, they can give you the details of companies that the Government has authorised to carry out energy/SAP ratings. These companies will charge a fee, typically between £50 and £100 depending on the size of your house and complexity of the survey.
It should also be noted that, since 1995 there has been a requirement for new homes to have a SAP rating. Therefore if you are buying a new home, remember to ask what its SAP rating is.
Energy Efficiency Installers
If you have decided to invest on improving your homes energy efficiency either though heating, insulation or glazing you may want to talk to an Energy Efficiency Installer. They have signed up to the Energy Efficiency Code of Practice and can advise and install the best energy efficiency option to your needs. The Energy Efficiency Installers are all covered by public liability insurance and belong to an accredited organisation which has vetted them. They have a code of practice and customer complaints procedure.
You should contact the EEAC (Freephone 0800 512 012) to receive details of Energy Efficiency Installers who can install heating and insulation measures.
