Streets Ahead team wins regional award!

Streets Ahead are proud to announce that we are the 2008 winners of the prestigious “Improving Lives” Yorkshire and Humber Making A Difference Award!

Seeing off stiff competition from East Riding Council, Leeds Council, Selby Council and Wakefield Council, Streets Ahead were judged to be the best in the region in creating a cleaner, greener, healthier and better place to live.

Streets Ahead is a partnership between the Council, West Yorkshire Police, Fire, Incommunities and many local community groups and agencies. Congratulations to everyone involved who is working so hard to improve the quality of our neighbourhoods.

Streets Ahead shows positive results

A recent survey*, carried out across all five Streets Ahead neighbourhoods, shows that residents are much happier with the quality of their lives and that their communities are a better place to live. Excellent results illustrate that fear of crime, environmental responsibility and activities for youngsters are all being addressed. A summary of the figures show:

  • 10% increase - Quality of life
  • 12% increase - Satisfaction with clean neighbourhoods
  • 9% increase - Residents engaged in local activities
  • 7% decrease - Anti-social issues

The independent survey* was commissioned this year by Bradford Council in Allerton and Lower Grange, East Shipley, Holme Wood, Little Horton and South Keighley.

As Councillor Martin Smith, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Safer Communities, explains: “The results of this survey are great news for Bradford and Keighley. Knowing that residents in the Streets Ahead areas are happier and more satisfied is a real boost and shows that Streets Ahead is really working to create a better future. We will continue to work very hard to ensure that results keep improving in these areas.”
