Shipley

The Shipley Area is an administrative sub-division of Bradford District Council, and is made up of the following District Council Wards:
- Baildon
- Bingley
- Bingley Rural
- Shipley
- Wharfedale
- Windhill and Wrose.
The Shipley Area encompasses a wide range of communities including the townships of Shipley, Bingley and Baildon; semi-rural villages in the Bingley Rural and Wharfedale Wards; and large areas of residential housing, some owned privately and some owned by social landlords. The Shipley Area contains the World Heritage Site of Saltaire.
Geographically, the Area is a patchwork of separate but linked communities, each with their own identity and character. The Area extends from the edge of the Pennine hills at Denholme; across the valley of Airedale; over Rombalds Moor; into Wharfedale.
There is a rich tradition of community engagement and voluntary activity throughout the Area. Parish or Town Councils exist in Denholme, Cullingworth, Wrose, Wilsden, Burley, and Menston. It is likely that new Parish Councils will be formed soon for Baildon and Harden. Many other neighbourhoods and communities of interest have their own community associations, partnership or similar co-ordinatory body.
Neighbourhood Forums are held regularly in every neighbourhood throughout the Area in order to give local residents the chance to have their say on local issues. Over 4,000 residents attended a Neighbourhood Forum in the Shipley Area during 2005/6.

Local action-planning has taken place and is on-going in the following communities:
- Neighbourhood Action Plans:
- Cottingley

- East Shipley (Bolton Woods, Crag and Owlet, and Windhill).
Parish Planning:

Urban Village Action Planning:
Less formal action-planning is going on in many other communities.
