About the Keighley Area

The Keighley area is one of the largest of the 5 geographical areas that make up the Bradford metropolitan district. It is an area that combines some of the finest countryside in the U.K. with a long history of agricultural, commercial and industrial development. This is reflected in the cultural diversity of those who live and work in the many towns villages and neighbourhoods that reside within the six electoral wards of:

Craven – including Addingham, Silsden (originally known as Cobbydale), Steeton and Eastburn.

Worth Valley (Bronte Country) – including Haworth, Oakworth, Oxenhope, Stanbury and Cross Roads.

Ilkley- including Ben Rhydding, Middleton and Ilkley Moor (baht’at).

Keighley Central – starting point for a trip on the world famous Keighley and Worth Valley Railway- includes the neighbourhoods of Lawkholme, Showfield, Knowle Park, Highfield, Beechcliffe & Utley.

Keighley East – home of the Keighley show and Marley recreation grounds includes the villages and neighbourhoods of Riddlesden, Morton, Stockbridge, Hainworth Wood, Ingrow, Hainworth Village, Long Lee and Thwaites Brow.

Keighley West – a combination of the old historic settlements of Laycock, Bogthorne and Braithwaite Village with the more recently developed housing estates of Braithwaite & Guardhouse, Bracken Bank, Ingrow West and Exley Head.

We are responsible for organising Neighbourhood Forums and other public engagement events across our area on behalf of Bradford Council to provide a range of opportunities for residents to share their ideas, experiences and concerns. In this way local people can directly influence Council Policy and the decision making of the Keighley Area Committee.

Neighbourhood Forums at Work

The Keighley Area benefits from a range of well developed networks of groups, individuals, councillors and organisations working together for the benefit of the community. Alongside forums and other public consultation events we also support and develop a wide range of partnership work in local communities to help local residents to work with statutory and voluntary service providers to improve local services and shape the future of their own neighbourhoods.

The Keighley Area co-ordinator’s office also supports the work of the seven Town and Parish Councils in the area.
