Lister Park Boating Lake and Pavillion
If you have not been in the park lately, you must pay a visit to the new modern boating pavilion and café open April to September from 12.00noon to 7.00pm and from 12.00noon to 5.00pm during October. You can also try one of the row boats or pedalboats on the newly restored boating lake.
The impressive three-acre Victorian lake was always extremely popular with visitors so it was deliberately included in the first phase of the £4.2 million plan to return the park to its former glory and ensure its future as a key attraction for the whole District. The row boats cost £3 for one/two people or £2 Passport to Leisure, plus 50p per additional person and the Pedal Boats cost £2.50 for one /two people or £2 Passport to Leisure, plus 50p per additional person.
The plug was pulled on the lake over two years ago, and after the thousands of gallons of water had drained away, the fish were relocated and work began to remove the silt and repair the basin. The 300 metre long lake was then refilled and the £300,000 boating pavilion built on the site of the original wooden structure which was removed more than a decade ago. The design incorporates a large, curved glass viewing window to allow visitors to look out over the picturesque lake. There’s a closed circuit TV camera in the pavilion roof to monitor the lake and its surroundings.
The pavilion and boating lake have been so successful that you will have to be patient and prepared to wait a while if you choose to visit on a hot, sunny weekend or a public holiday. Safety on water is very important, so we ask parents and other adult family members and friends, to either accompany or closely supervise young people using the boats, café and other facilities.
