Music at Myrtle was introduced by the Council’s former Recreation Division in 1991 and is now in its 14th year.
Bands that have performed in previous years at the Music at Myrtle event include top artists such as The Searchers, Alvin Stardust, local band Smokie, Suzi Quatro, Shawaddywaddy, Hot Chocolate, Edwin Starr, B. C. Sweet and Boney M.
The line up at last years event began with a fantastic set from local band Slider who collaborated with successful vocalist Chantel for the occasion. Live Bee Gees tribute band, Bee Gees Fever, then continued to wow the crowd with superb renditions of classic Bee Gees hits such as Staying Alive and How deep is your love? The Foundations then followed, astounding the crowd with their extensive repertoire of hits such as Build me up Buttercup and Baby now that I’ve found you. This classic band was formed in the mid-60’s by guitarist Alan Warner who is still in the current line-up along with lead singer Colin Young. Headlining last year were The Manfreds, who’s ever popular hits encapsulate and keep alive the golden age of British popular music. The band enjoyed a reunion in 1991 after not playing together for nearly a quarter of a century. The line up includes no less than 5 original members who delighted the audience with hits such as Do Wah Diddy Diddy, 5-4-3-2-1, Pretty Flamingo and Ha! Ha! Said the Clown.
The Saturday evening’s entertainment culminated with a dazzling firework display – a perfect end to an evening of great music from new local bands, tribute acts and classic worldwide artists.
The attendance numbers at the weekend of music have increased considerably over the years, changing from what was once a small event, to a well-established pop concert, attracting a weekend audience of up to 50,000 people.
The current two-day event was formed in 1998 as a partnership venture with Bradford Council and radio station The Pulse.
The Pulse Party in the Park is based on the familiar Party in the Park theme adopted by many radio stations throughout the country. Music is dedicated to a younger audience with top performances from the current chart stars.
