Treat your kids…and the planet
Residents are being urged to think about treating the planet while they treat their kids this Easter.
From buying Easter Eggs to family days out, there are lots of way to enjoy the holidays while reducing your carbon footprint.
Bradford Council is offering the following tips to residents this Easter as part of its drive to cut down waste and boost recycling:
* Buy chocolate eggs that do not contain a lot of excess packaging - many retailers are now selling eggs with just the foil wrapping;
* Buy locally-produced ingredients for your Easter dinner;
* Buy loose vegetables instead of pre-packaged items;
* Take advantage of the many free and low-cost activities on your doorstep. Burn off those Easter egg calories by leaving the car at home for the day and walking to your local park, museum or leisure centre.
* Use your kerbside recycling collection to recycle your waste paper, glass, cans, jars and garden waste or use your local household waste recycling centre.
Coun Anne Hawkesworth, the Executive Member for Environment and Culture, said: "Easter is a time to treat the kids and the whole family, but it shouldn't be at the expense of the environment.
"By opting for a greener Easter, and taking small steps to reduce our environmental impact, we can all make a difference and reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill."
Bradford Council's A-Z of recycling will be dropping through residents' doorsteps soon which lists even more ways people can make a difference.
