Young sports stars' chance to shine
Young athletes are being urged to sign up for Bradford's third Olympic games.
Bradford Council's Youth Service, in partnership with the Council's leisure services and the adventure activities development unit, is calling on young people to take part in the three-day event which is being held every year in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics in London.
The games, which were launched in May 2006 with the backing of Bradford's gold Olympian swimmer Adrian Moorhouse, include swimming, badminton, athletics and mountain biking from 27 to 29 May at various venues.
A biathlon - cycling and archery - will also be held on Tuesday, 27 May at Richard Dunn Sports Centre, a regatta at Doe Park on Wednesday, 28 May, and track and field events will be held at Horsfall Stadium on Thursday, 29 May.
The Youth Service's Outdoor Education Officer Mike Burtoft said: "The games have proven to be a huge success over the past two years and we hope lots of young people put their names down and start training for these heats."
Coun Colin Gill, the Council's Executive Member for Services for Children and Young People, said: "This is a great way for young people to have a go at different sports, work as a team and boost their skills - we may even discover some young Olympians!"
