Young people brace themselves for Lane Fox Challenge
A gruelling but exciting challenge awaits teams of young people from the district this Sunday (5 October).
The annual Lane Fox Challenge, now in its 25th year, is run by the Bradford Duke of Edinburgh's Award which is part of Bradford Council's Youth Service.
The event at Parkwood Off Road Centre in Tong is orienteering with a difference - instead of teams stamping a card when they find a checkpoint they have to undergo a challenge.
Teams taking part in the event include youth clubs, school groups, scouts and guides and army cadets. They will set off at six minute intervals with a map and clue sheet with which they will need to find ten checkpoints and therefore undergo ten challenges.
Each challenge will need the teams of five young people, aged 14 upwards, to work together as a unit. Among the challenges are Tunnel Terrors in which teams have to crawl through an underground pipe and Stream Swing requiring teams to swing Tarzan-style across a wide stream.
Prizes will include the Lane Fox prize for the fastest time of the day, the Lee Divine Shield for the team showing most effort and determination and the George Reid Trophy for the best army cadet team.
