Question time on human rights

Young people are invited to learn about human rights and talk to people who have suffered from injustice at an event in Bradford.

Bradford Council's Youth Service is holding the session on Human Rights Day, on Monday, 10 December, at the Colour Museum in Providence Street, Bradford, from 4pm to 7pm.

It will give young people the chance to learn more about the issues surrounding prejudice, while also giving them the chance to take part in a 'question time' with staff from the Peace Studies department at the University of Bradford who have had real life experience of human rights issues.

Organisations such as Unicef and Amnesty International will also have stalls offering information about the work they do.

Organiser Youth Service Arts Worker Mick Chandsoor said: "This is an opportunity for young people across the district to come together and reflect on inequalities, injustice and prejudices that have happened throughout the world, and issues that are still happening.

"We are hoping to make it a fun and informative event for young people to give them the chance to take information away about the impact human rights has at a local, national and international level."

Coun Colin Gill, the Council's Executive Member for Services for Children and Young People, said: "This event will give young people the chance to grasp the issues facing people in Bradford - and beyond - and to have an understanding about what others have been through."
