Needle Exchange
The needle exchange scheme provides free equipment, information and advice to injecting drug users across the Bradford district, alongside safe disposal facilities. Its aim is to prevent the spread of blood-borne viruses e.g. HIV and Hepatitis through injecting drugs use.
It was established in May 1987 and was the first pharmacy-based needle exchange scheme of its kind in the world.
Currently there are a total of 25 participating outlets including local pharmacies, drug agencies and other specialised projects.
The scheme is funded by Bradford Health Authority, with all staffing costs paid by Bradford Council.
