Support for People who have a Sight or Hearing loss

You can get support

If you live in the Bradford Metropolitan District and

  • have difficulties due to sight or hearing loss
    or
  • if you live or work with someone with a sight or hearing loss.

We will discuss your needs with you to help decide on the type and amount of support we can offer.

We provide these services:

Duty/ Advice Line
If you have questions, need information or want some advice you can contact our Duty Service by ringing or visiting the centre. If you wish to visit, please ring us first to make sure someone is available to see you.

Visual Impairment Team
The Visual Impairment Team can provide support, advice and practical training if you have sight loss (or sight loss with an additional loss.)

Deaf Services
We provide a range of services to people who are deaf, partially deaf or hard of hearing. Our services include support meetings, equipment to make daily living safer and easier, advice and information, providing interpreters and support for people with other problems that are made worse by their hearing loss.

British Sign Language Interpreting Service
British Sign Language interpreters, communicators, lip speakers and speech-to-text typists can be booked by contacting the Service direct.

They can help you with communication in a wide range of areas, e.g. medical, legal and employment situations.
We charge organisations for this service (details available on request).
Please note --There is a national shortage of professionally qualified staff so we recommend pre-booking up to 4 weeks in advance.

Touch IT
Touch IT can provide you with training in computer skills at any level, free of charge, to suit your individual needs.
This applies to people who have a vision loss or who are deaf or hard of hearing, and for those with physical disabilities.

Please note
If you are interested in using the services described in this leaflet, please contact them by visiting the Get in Touch link below.
However, some services can only be provided after we have discussed your own and your carer’s needs with a member of the team. After talking to you about the difficulties you or your carer may be having and what help you are asking for, we will let you know how we can help you.
