Who can get support?
Anyone living in the Bradford Metropolitan District who is having difficulty with
- Managing day-to-day tasks at home because of a disability
or - Caring for someone with a disability.
We will discuss your needs with you to help decide on the type and amount of support we can offer.
What type of support do we provide?
The Occupational Therapy Section supports disabled people, their carers and disabled children and their families, to live as independently and safely as possible in their own homes.
The kinds of things we can help with include bathing and using the toilet, getting around your home and entering and leaving it, managing in the kitchen and getting in and out of bed.
We do this by providing
- Equipment and advice to you
- Equipment and advice to support carers and families in their caring role
- Support and advice when applying for adaptations to your home
- Help and advice if you need re-housing.
How do we provide help?
The Occupational Therapy Section can help you in many different ways, depending on your circumstances and what you may need.
These include
- A clinic appointment to discuss your needs
- An discussion of your needs over the telephone
- A home visit from a member of staff
- Referring you to Disability Equipment Bradford (a local demonstration centre for specialist disability equipment)
- Working together with other agencies to provide you with the help you need
- If we feel that another department may be able to help you better (e.g. physiotherapy, social worker) we will pass your request on to them and let you know.
