Bradford Youth Offending Team

The Youth Justice System in England and Wales comprises the youth courts, the institutions in which young people are held in custody, and the range of professionals (the police, the probation service, social workers, education and health workers) who work with young people that offend.

The Crime & Disorder Act 1998 has completely reformed this system.
For the first time the Youth Justice System has one overall aim, to prevent youth offending. Now young people who offend will be systematically assessed, appropriately punished, helped and directed to change their behaviour and encouraged to compensate the victims of their crimes.

Parents will also be more fully involved in reforming their children.

The Bradford Youth Offending Team works with young offenders aged between 10-17 years old across the district. The service is supported by the main agencies:

  • Bradford Social Services
  • West Yorkshire Police
  • Probation Service
  • Primary Care Trusts
