Free School Meals & School Clothing Allowance
Free School Meals and School Clothing Allowance are available to children of parents/guardians who live in the Bradford Metropolitan District area, attend a council nursery or school full time and get one of the following:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)
- Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) with an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) of less than £15,575
- Support from NASS under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
Even if you do not qualify for Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit you can still claim.
How do I apply for Free School Meals and School Clothing Allowance?
If you want to claim Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit as well as Free School Meals and School Clothing Allowance you need to complete the Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Free School Meals and School Clothing Allowance Claim Form.
If you do not want to claim Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit you can apply for just free school meals and schools clothing vouchers using the Free School Meals and School Clothing Allowance Application form.
Even if you do not qualify for Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit you can still claim. Vouchers for School Clothing Allowance are payable once a year and each voucher is worth £26.00.
Your entitlement to Free School Meals and School Clothing Allowance will stop if your circumstances change and you no longer receive any of the following:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit)
- Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) with an annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) of less than £15,575
- Support from NASS under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
If you do not tell us about your benefit stopping we can ask you to pay for the meals taken.
If you have received a School Clothing Allowance voucher you are free to cash this but you will not be entitled to further vouchers unless your circumstances change allowing you to claim again and a year has passed since the last voucher was received.
