What Is Shared Care?
The Shared Care Scheme consists of a team of Social Workers and Link Carers who offer short and long-term family-based care to disabled adults.
By offering to care for a disabled person Link Carers give disabled people the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy new experiences. They also give families a much needed break and the chance to relax – even if it's only for a few hours at a time.
Some Link Carers care for adults with learning disabilities on a short-term basis – perhaps one weekend per month or overnight during the week depending on what they can offer.
Other Link Carers offer long-term placements – where an adult with a learning disability lives with them full-time. These Link Carers have usually offered short-term care before someone is placed with them on a long-term basis.
