Health, Well-being and Care

What is a Link Carer?

Link Carers come from all areas of Bradford and from a variety of backgrounds. They are single people or couples, young and old, with and without children.

You don’t need any special qualifications or experience of working with disabled people – we’re not looking for experts – just people who are committed, interested, understanding of the needs of disabled people and their families and who have some spare time to offer to a disabled adult.

Link Carers can choose whether they want to provide care during the day or overnight and whether they would like to care in their own home or the disabled person’s home. They can choose to provide care for as little as 35 days per year or can give more time if they prefer.

Link Carers and disabled people are carefully matched with each other according to the age and ability of the person that the carer feels comfortable with and the requirements of the disabled person. Mutual interests and lifestyle are also taken into account. Link Carers and disabled people and their families will meet each other before deciding whether they want to go ahead with the placement.
