Moving into or thinking about moving into a residential home within the Bradford district?

It is important you choose a home that is right for you and to help you undertake this task we have highlighted some of the things, which you will need to consider prior to taking the first step.

If you would like assistance, we are more than happy to discuss your needs, we will explain procedures including the financial arrangements to you, a friend or relative.

Interpreting services are available if required

Does it apply to me?

If you:

A) Are Over 65.
B) Have a disability.
C) Are finding it difficult to care for yourself
D) Require any assistance with daily routines and chores.
E) Are frailer and more infirm

Then we may be able to help you.

Together we could help you to decide the next step. Depending on your needs, several options could be explored.

These are:

  1. Home Care Services could assist you with an independent living, package of care.
  2. Rehabilitation and Enablement services which work with you, to help retain your ability to maintain independent living.
  3. Day care services that enable you to live a more fulfilling lifestyle.
  4. Different types of Residential and Nursing Care Homes which are registered and inspected annually by (CSCI) The Commission for Social Care Inspection.

What do I need to look for?

  • Initially devise a list of questions you would like to ask, we could help you with this.
  • Arrange to visit the homes and speak to the residents, the majority are happy to chat.
  • Is the home easy to access, is it near a good bus route, are the shops, post office, Library etc, close by?
  • Do you want to stay within your local area? close to familiar faces and places or do you want to move out of the immediate area and meet new people?
  • What are your preferences? Do you want a single room or a shared room? Can the home provide this?
  • Will you be able to have a say in what happens within the home, for example menu planning, activities, outings etc.
  • What is the level of the resident’s involvement?

Try to arrange a visit for half a day or a full day. It may be in your interests to stay overnight occasionally before making your decision.

Bradford Social Services have produced a booklet detailing the Residential Care and Nursing Homes in the Bradford Area; this booklet lists all of the local homes. For a copy of the book contact one our Area Offices.
