Information and guidance about safety in the workplace

Health & Safety is a fundamental part of good business management. The Occupational Safety Team helps managers and employees to manage risks in the workplace, meeting the requirements of health & safety legislation. This is supported by our policies, procedures & guidance documents.
If you cannot find the information you need, or would like to speak with a safety adviser, please contact the Occupational Safety Team.

What We Do
  • provide advice and guidance to help managers to fulfil their health and safety responsibilities
  • answer queries from employees and managers on health and safety issues
  • visit establishments where necessary, to give advice on all aspects of new and existing health and safety policies and procedures
  • audit health and safety performance within Services
  • collect information on accidents and incidents to report to HSE where necessary
  • facilitate staff safety training
  • collect information and statistics and provide health and safety reports
  • interpret and advise on new legislation impacting on the working environment
  • attend meetings to advise on occupational safety issues
  • in cases where there is a risk of serious personal injury, Occupational Safety Advisers also have the authority to issue internal Health and Safety Prohibition Notices

Our main area of work is within the Council, but we also have Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) with Academy Schools, Free Schools and other organisations linked to the council.

We welcome your feedback on the site and suggestions for additions or improvements you would like to see.
