Equalities in Contracts
The pursuit of equality of opportunity through procurement has a number of objectives:
- equality of outcome in services delivered
- equality of opportunity in the employment policies, procedures and practices of the firms which operate contracts on behalf of the Council
- opportunity for ethnic minority (or other under-represented group) firms to win Council contracts

Freedom of Information - Procurement
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2000 was fully implemented on 1st January 2005. The Act provides rights of access by both individuals and organisations to information retained by public authorities. This also includes anyone holding information on behalf of public authorities, including contractors and suppliers.
The Act will have retrospective effect and the right of access will apply to information supplied before January 2005 as well as afterwards.
There are a number of exemptions from the Act, for example to avoid prejudice to a commercial interest or where there is an obligation of confidentiality. See the links below for further information on exemptions.
Information that is recorded on behalf of the Council by contractors and suppliers will fall under the Act and it is important that contractors and suppliers inform the Council as to information they consider to be exempt. Bradford Council may disclose information if it is deemed to be in the public's interest in disclosing the information.
Further information on the Act can be obtained from The Information Commissioner's Office and the Department for Constitutional Affairs.
