Hackney Carriage Driver's Licences
A licence is required before any person can drive a hackney carriage (taxi).
Applicants for a Hackney Carriage driver’s licence must be at least 21 years old and have held a full British Driving licence for at least three years. They must undertake a medical examination by their G.P., complete a Criminal Record Bureau check, and undertake a local knowledge test.
Every licensed driver, whilst driving their licensed vehicle must wear their Hackney Carriage drivers badge on their outer clothing so as to be visible to the public.
