Steering Group for Fairtrade

Bradford Council approved a Minute of 16 July 2002 stating:

That… Bradford Council considers that it should work towards obtaining the status of a Fairtrade City

In accordance with this, the Council appointed a Policy Officer, to co-ordinate a Fairtrade Steering Group. Its Chair is John D Anderson and the Group meets regularly. Its aim is to ensure that Fairtrade activities in the District are initiated, co-ordinated and encouraged.

The Group has members from active Fairtrade groups and communities in the District. Haworth is already formally a Fairtrade village as certified by the Fairtrade Foundation; Shipley, Baildon, Bingley and Ilkley have been certified as Fairtrade Towns. Burley and Denholme have active groups pursuing this aim. Bradford College and, the University of Bradford have strong Fairtrade initiatives. All these are represented on the Steering Group.

In 2006 Bradford became a Fairtrade Zone.

The University of Bradford is a Fairtrade university.

Chair. John D Anderson. October 2007.
