Fairtrade Fortnight March 6-19 2006
Many areas in the District had activities to foster the use of Fairtrade goods. Most are recounted under the appropriate place name.
Others were:
- On Thursday 9 March. Presentation by John D Anderson at Bradford Girls Grammar School to Year 11, who were then to teach Year 7 about Fairtrade.
- On Tuesday 7 March and Wednesday 15 March two Fairtrade wine tastings were held at the Fairtrade Café, Ash Grove, Great Horton Road. At the second, a Chilean wine producer, Sergio, spoke of how their workers benefited from Fairtrade by a guaranteed, regular price, higher wages, a social premium for a school and medicines. Unlike some products, 100% of Fairtrade wine is fairly traded. Much Chilean wine was savoured.
- Salt Grammar School hosted an evening wine tasting with Sergio on Wed 15 March.
- On Monday 13 March the Mothers Union of Bingley Parish Church hosted a presentation on Ethiopia and Fairtrade given by John D Anderson.
- Just after Fairtrade Fortnight, on Monday 27 March the Soroptimists had a Fairtrade meeting in St Stephen's Church Hall, Steeton, where the United Coop displayed some of its Fairtrade goods, and provided free wine and chocolate.
