Baildon:
48 people carried out 24 hours of advocacy of Fairtrade in Baildon Co-op on Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 February.
Bingley:
Bingley Fairtrade group organised a visiting theatre group to perform their play 'Dreams of an African Child' at the University of Bradford on Friday 29 February. The play concerned human trafficking in Ghana and centred on the story of a 16 year old boy. Pupils from Beckfoot Fairtrade School, and adults, attended this fascinating production
Burley in Wharfedale:
As well as the Fairtrade Coffee Morning in the Parish Centre on 8th March there was a Poster Competition. Burley’s activities helped to further its case to be a Fairtrade Village.
Education Contract Services:
During Fairtrade Fortnight, the menus at both the City Hall restaurant and at Flockton House were planned to include many Fairtrade ingredients in the recipes. There was a different selection of products on each day of the two weeks and these included Fairtrade ingredients such as fresh and dried fruits, rice and pasta, spices, nuts, chocolate, sugar, honey and fruit juice. Fairtrade tea, coffee and fruit juices were served, together with a range of confectionery including cakes, cookies, Geobars and chocolate bars. The Jardinière restaurant on the top floor of City Hall was resplendent with Fairtrade materials. It is open to the public: just ask at Reception.
Haworth:
There was a screening of Black Gold on Sunday 2 March at West Lane Baptist Church.
Ilkley:
A town-wide quiz based on both the Ilkley and Bradford directories was widely distributed. The prize was a hamper of Fairtrade goodies donated by local shops. Ilkley TIC and All Saints Primary School were centrally involved.
Menston:
There was a Fairtrade Coffee Morning at the Cornerstone Café in the Methodist Church.
Shipley:
100 people came to a Grand Fairtrade Coffee Tasting of 30 ground, instant, decaffeinated coffees, together with teas, on Tuesday 26 February at St Margaret's Church, Shipley Fields Road, Frizinghall, followed by the film 'Black Gold' on the coffee trade.
Wilsden:
Fairtrade refreshments were served and Fairtrade goods sold on Monday 3rd March in St. Matthew’s Church, Wilsden
University of Bradford
Richmond Building
A debate on ‘How fair is Fairtrade?’ was held
Fair trade tea, coffee and cakes were served at the Treehouse Café after the debate. There was a Fairtrade raffle.
A film ‘Coca Cola: Drinking the World Dry’ was shown
with a discussion chaired by Bradford University ethics and environment officer, Jen Fox
At Heaton Mount
- Fairtrade wine was introduced
- Fairtrade biscuits with mid morning coffee were served twice a week
In the Seasons Restaurant
- Half price Geo bars were available with any hot drink from the Deli Counter
- Special Fairtrade dishes were produced from the Fairtrade Cookbook
School of Management
A Fairtrade Raffle was held
Tree House Cafe, Great Horton Road
Throughout the fortnight Fairtrade products used in their food were highlighted, and there were special offers and samples of Fairtrade snacks and goodies. There was a Chocolate Day and a Nut Day. The Commonwealth Storytellers, followed by crafts with a Fairtrade theme, entertained very young Fairtradettes.
Briggate, Leeds
Bradford had a stall all day at the national Fairtrade Foundation's touring bus, where the Bradford Directory 2008 was distributed.
Manningham Sports Centre
Our large annual Fairtrade Football Tournament was held, supported by The Cooperative with free Fairtrade fruit and snacks.
