Who Needs A Licence
The SIA has more detailed information on its website regarding exactly who must have an SIA licence, and which type of licence they must have. Full details regarding this are available on the SIA website under "Related links" below.
Event Stewards
At present event stewards undertaking a licensable activity, namely vetting suitability of persons entering licensed premises and dealing with outbreaks of disorder etc, will only require an SIA licence if they are working at a premises or area within an arena/stadium/venue etc that is licensed under the Licensing Act 1964 (but see below). Licensing will be extended to event stewards working at premises with other types of licences at a later date as yet to be decided. Further information is available on the SIA website under "Related links" below.
Performing Rights Society
The Performing Rights Society (PRS) is a non-profit membership organisation which collects licence fees from music users and then distributes the money to its members (the writers and publishers of music). A PRS Music Licence gives you the legal permission to play almost any copyright music.
Who needs a PRS Music Licence;
- Any location or premises where music is played and can be heard by the public.
- Any premises outside the home, from clubs to concerts halls, from disco’s to dentists waiting rooms, and from trains to takeaways.
- Usually the proprietor/manager of the premises is responsible for obtaining a PRS Music Licence.
