Street Cleaning

Street Cleansing is responsible for cleaning over 10,000 roads or 1750 kilometres of highway in the Bradford District. We remove litter and detritus (the silt, gravel and fines that accumulates on the highway) using manual and mechanical means.

The core elements of the service operate seven days a week using mechanical sweepers, and are supported during the weekdays by teams of transits and manual sweepers.

Ward-based teams work closely with Neighbourhood Wardens and Ward Coordinators to ensure local residents both influence priorities for action and take responsibility themselves for street cleanliness. These links will be strengthened further with the introduction of an integrated Council uniformed service that also covers parks and parking civil enforcement.

Our remit currently covers the pavements, verges, channels and the carriageways.

City Centre Team

There is a dedicated team that cover Bradford’s City Centre seven days a week for extended hours. Our team liaises with other services and organisations to cover special events such as those often held in Centenary Square.

The other town/village centres within the district also receive a dedicated service operating extended hours.

Dealing with Emergencies

Street Scene also provides 24 hour emergency cover all year round assisting the Emergency Services and the public in general when they report any of the following:

  • Spillages on the highway
  • Road Traffic Collisions
  • Obstructions on the highway
  • Dead Animals
  • Needles / Syringes on the highway
