Litter Bins
Street Scene maintains over 2,000 Street fixed litter bins across the district. We aim to empty these litter bins on a routine basis.
We also attempt to repair or replace badly damaged litter bins when we become aware of them.
If you spot a badly damaged litter bin please let us know and we will investigate it
New Litter Bin Installations
We do site some new litter bins each year, where a large gap in the coverage or a pressing need has been established.
Some of the criteria / factors that have to be considered by the service when deciding whether / where we site new installations are:
- Scale of litter problem
- Suitability of pavement i.e. obstruction to mechanical sweeping, wheelchairs, prams
- Planning restrictions i.e. World Heritage Site
- Availability of new litter bins
- Past history of vandalised bins in the area
If you would like to suggest possible sites that require a new installation we will consider them as well as those that have been nominated by the Local Area Co-ordinators' Offices, and where we feel the case meets all the criteria we will install a new litter bin.
Recycling Litter Bins
We are currently trialling some Recycling Litter Bins around some schools within the district. They have a compartment that allows the collection of plastic bottles and cans separately to general waste. These are not standard issue and currently there are no plans to introduce them across the district.
