Street Cleansing

Street Cleansing is responsible for cleaning over 10,000 roads or 1750 kilometres of highway in the Bradford District. We remove litter and detritus (the silt, gravel and fines that accumulates on the highway) using manual and mechanical means.
The core elements of the service operate seven days a week using mechanical sweepers, and are supported during the weekdays by teams of transits and manual sweepers.
The transits and manual sweepers work in ward-based teams established in June 2008, with the aim of improving local knowledge and attention to detail by having a continuous presence in the same area.
The ward based working is in place for the Bradford North, South and West Area Panels, and the intention is to extend this to the Keighley and Shipley Area Panels in May 2009.
Our remit currently covers the pavements, verges, channels and the carriageways.
City Centre Team
There is a dedicated team that cover Bradford’s City Centre seven days a week for extended hours. They remove anywhere between 200 and 300 green bags of litter per day. Our team and liaise with other services and organisations to cover special events such as those often held in Centenary Square.
The other town/village centres within the district also receive a dedicated service operating extended hours.

- Spillages on the highway
