Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA)

The Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) is a key element of the LDF's evidence base. It will analyse the housing market in Bradford in depth advising on the types of housing needed in different areas and the amount and pattern of need for affordable housing – housing provided for sale and rent at below market prices.

In the summer of 2009, the Planning Service commissioned consultants Arc4 to undertake this major housing study which will shape and inform policies in the LDF, in particular the Core Strategy. It will, along with financial viability assessments, help determine how much subsidised affordable housing developers have to incorporate into their development schemes.

The study, which will build on extensive research already carried out by the Council’s Housing Service, was completed in 2010.
