Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)

Work on Bradford’s SHLAA is now nearing completion. A draft report is now available - see the link below.

The SHLAA provides the main mechanism for identifying potential housing sites across the District and assessing their developability and deliverability.

The SHLAA is not a policy document – it does not make decisions on which sites should go forward and allocated for development but it does provide information and choices to help make those decisions. It is a key part of the evidence base since it supports and underpins both the Core Strategy and those DPD’s which allocate sites.

The SHLAA is being undertaken in partnership with a stakeholder working group.

‘Call for Sites’ (2008 - 2009)

The Council carried out a ‘Call For Sites’ exercise in 2008/9. We invited any agent/landowner/developer/land user who may have interests in the district and who wishes to promote particular sites for development in the forthcoming LDF to submit their proposals to the Allocations Team. The Council are looking for sites which may be suitable for housing, employment, retail or community uses.

All submitted sites will be considered and analysed as part of the LDF and housing sites will be assessed firstly through the SHLAA process to assess whether they are developable.

Putting a site forward does not guarantee that the Council will allocate it in the LDF, or support its development in the future. All sites will need to be judged against relevant planning policies and other considerations. All sites submitted as part of the call for sites exercise will be published in due course and cannot be treated confidentially.

A further ‘Call for Sites’ exercise will be carried out later this year in the run up to the publication of the LDF Allocations DPD Issues and Options report.
