Landscape Design Unit FAQ's


Landscape Architects generally aim to provide the best possible environments for people to both live and work in, and enjoy.

They work on a diverse range of projects and all types of outdoor space – large and small, urban and rural, to include:

  • The location and setting of new development or redevelopment
  • The spaces outside buildings, including housing and schools
  • Public parks and sports facilities
  • Highways and other transport corridors
  • City and town centre public realm, including pedestrian zones
  • Large or small urban regeneration schemes
  • Landscape history and conservation
  • Landscape character and environmental assessment
  • Landscape management
  • Planning advice

No, but we have been commissioned to design Award wining Botanic Gardens, Play Areas and Specialised gardens such as the Mughal Garden in Lister Park.

Yes, but in general only public gardens, those attached to schools, housing, social services and other developments with public access.

Yes, we have a strong track record for the design and delivery of sports facilities, especially playing fields, for sports such as football and rugby, and Multi Use Games Areas, which are suitable in areas where space is restricted and for use in all weather conditions.

No, maintenance of verges along highways and footpaths is the responsibility of Street Scene’s Landscape Division.
