The Environment and Climate Change Unit

Bradford Council - Environment and Climate Change Unit

Bradford Council has its own Environment & Climate Change Unit (ECCU), the team works on a range of environmental and climate change projects.

Its three main roles are:

  1. Energy Management
Monitoring and reducing energy consumption in the council's own buildings and operations. Researching and encouraging renewable technologies.
  2. Climate Change & Carbon Management
Developing action plans to reduce the impacts and risks from climate change on the Council's services and reducing CO2 emissions from our own operations.
  3. Environmental Management
Environmental Management including efficient use of natural resources, water, waste and wider ecosystem services, travel planning, environmental awareness.

The Climate Change Act 2008 accepted that the UK will have to cut its carbon dioxide emissions by at least 80% by 2050. As a result of this, Bradford Council has recognised it needs to address its impact on the environment and the affects of climate change by setting up the Environment & Climate Change Unit.
