A busy pedestrian thoroughfare in Bradford is to be overhauled during the final stage of the Heritage Streets improvement programme.

Work began during the week commencing May 7 2012 on Ivegate and Upper Millergate in the city centre.

The streets will be resurfaced using new and re-used natural stone in-keeping with the first phase of the Heritage Streets scheme. New street furniture, including litter bins, will also be installed during the works, which are due to be completed by the end of the year.

Improvements in the city centre began in 2007 with refurbishments made to Darley Street, followed by the first phase of the Heritage Streets scheme in Tyrrel Street, Bank Street and Hustlergate which were completed in 2010.

Chris Bedford, Bradford Council Principal Engineer, said: "The Heritage Streets scheme forms part of our wider aim to attract extra investment and visitors in to the city centre.

"The materials being used here provide a consistent, high quality appearance and complement the ‘palette’ of materials used in City Park.”

Pedestrian access will continue during the work but changes are being made for delivery access.

Residents and businesses have been contacted and are aware of the improvement works.
