Bradford’s new City Park enjoyed a successful launch today (Saturday, 24 March) as thousands of people attended its grand opening.
A spectacular fountain and firework finale marked the climax of a day of free entertainment which showcased the new public space.
Street theatre, music and big crowds filled the six-acre site, which has been created by Bradford Council to form a key component of the city’s regeneration.
The 30m (100ft) central fountain and more than 100 other fountains within City Park’s 4,000sq m mirror pool were a big hit at the event, which ended with a movie music theme linking to Bradford’s status as the world’s first UNESCO City of Film.
Tony Reeves, Bradford Council’s Chief Executive, said: "It has been a tremendous day and we are delighted so many people enjoyed the first event at City Park.
"There is nothing else like City Park in the UK. This event has shown exactly what it brings to Bradford and can deliver in the future.
"From walking around the site it is clear City Park is already well liked and we hope that sense of pride grows further in the months and years to come.
"This is not the end of the process, of course, and City Park will play a fundamental part in our efforts to grow the local economy by attracting more visitors and inward investment.”
