More than 100 fountains at City Park have been installed and are ready for testing next week (w/c October 31).
Contractors for Bradford Council, which is overseeing the development of the 24,600sq m park in the centre of Bradford, are about to start testing and commissioning now construction is nearing completion.
The central jet fountain is capable of firing water up to 98ft (30m) in the air, making it comfortably the tallest fountain in any UK city and believed to be the fourth tallest fountain anywhere in the UK (behind Stanway House, Gloucestershire, Witley Court, Worcestershire, and Chatsworth House, Derbyshire).
It will only operate when the mirror pool is completely full and the Y-shaped causeway is covered by water. The fountain will rise slowly and will be surrounded by eight smaller jets reaching 16ft (5m).
Coun David Green, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Regeneration and Economy, said: "It will be very exciting to see a glimpse of what City Park is capable of in the coming days.
"Once the commissioning and testing is completed it will be tremendous to see the fountains working together.
"It will be just one part of what City Park will offer but it certainly promises to be a very eye-catching part.”
Four fountains within the mirror pool will shoot geyser-type water plumes 15m (50ft) into the air while around the edge of the pool another 45 fountains will spray water up to 5m (16ft) either individually or rising and falling in sequence.
Another ten fountains will be capable of creating an archway of water over one leg of the causeway.
In the children's play area there are 40 low-power jets flush with the ground to limit potential falls and set, like the rest of the park, within granite which has a finish that reduces slipping on wet rock.
A ripple generator has also been included in the central fountain unit allowing waves to be sent across the surface when the pool is full and mist can also be released into the park from the fountain units.
The mirror pool will vary in appearance, with the causeway appearing when it is partially full. The fountains and pool will follow a number of sequences throughout the day and can be completely drained every evening.
Every drop of water within the mirror pool will have been filtered, sterilised and treated before it reaches the surface, with equipment designed to keep water quality as high as possible.
The six-acre City Park has been designed to create a vibrant public space that supports the Bradford district economy over the long-term.
It will be an adaptable public space for people of all ages to enjoy, with areas for rest, relaxation and play, and also capable of hosting small or large-scale events. It is due for completion this winter.
