Jamie’s Ministry of Food

Learn how to cook quick, simple, healthy and cost effective meals.. then 'Pass It On' and teach others how to make them too!

What is the Ministry of Food?

The campaign, led by TV chef Jamie Oliver, is modelled on the Ministry of Food, set up during the war to ensure the population did not go hungry and could eat healthily on scarce rations.

Today's diet-related problems aren't linked to a shortage of food, but are serious in a very different way.

Research shows that people who cook are generally healthier than those who don't, and the campaign aims to teach people the skills to be able to make healthier lifestyle choices.

Bradford’s Ministry of Food is a centre where community groups and local people can get hands on cooking experience and friendly advice on recipes, ingredients shopping, nutrition, equipment, local and seasonal food, and how to make tasty simple meals on a tight budget.

The centre also acts as a hub for the ‘Pass It On’ movement in the Bradford district.

What is ‘Pass It On’?

Pass It On aims to inspire people who have never cooked to give it a try and then, once they’ve learned the recipes, to teach two other people how to make it too.

Pass It On is all about people sharing their cooking skills with each other in order to get everyone making tasty meals with fresh ingredients again.

This is important because knowing how to cook will be really good not only for your health, but also the future health of the nation.
