Life in the Community

Streets Ahead BMG survey 2007/08

Results show less grime & less crime

Horton Park

The Streets Ahead neighbourhood programme operates in five of the most deprived areas of the district – Allerton and Lower Grange, East Shipley, Holme Wood, Little Horton and South Keighley.

The four-year £4.7 million programme has brought a range of agencies – including the Council, West Yorkshire Police, Bradford Community Housing Trust and Bradford and Airedale Primary Care Trust – together to
tackle problems such as crime, housing, unemployment, education and the environment.

And it’s working.

A recent 2007-8 survey* in all five Streets Ahead areas shows that neighbourhoods are becoming cleaner and that residents are happier with their standards of living.

*Streets Ahead BMG survey 2007/08

  • 10% increase: Quality of life
  • 12% increase: Satisfaction with clean neighbourhoods
  • 9% increase: Residents engaged in local activities
  • 7% decrease: Anti-social issues

Police safety

Successful initiatives such as the introduction of Neighbourhood Wardens, more PCSOs and Street Reps are helping build stronger relationships and communicate residents’ issues.
Neighbourhood forums, fun days, community “action days” and agency-led events are bringing people together in positive ways.
