Bradford Urban Garden in the making
Bradford Council’s teams are almost finished building the temporary garden on the Westfield site in Bradford city centre and will continue the last items now the garden is open to the public.
Westfield completed their construction work in June and the Council’s landscaping and street scene teams moved on to complete the works.
Lighting columns, CCTV and entrance ways are currently being installed and the team are keeping a close eye on the weather and hoping for rainfall which is helping the grass grow.
Bradford-based arts charity, Fabric, are in talks with local businesses, community groups and artists about how the space can be used for the arts and events.
Coun David Green, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration and the Economy said: “There are some great ideas coming to us for how people would like to use the space – from allotments, to events to artwork being installed. We’re keen that the space is lively and interesting as well as opening up key walkways across the city centre.
“It is vital to the city’s traders and communities that the site can be used temporarily as we wait for confidence to return to the country’s retail market.”
If you have any ideas for animation of the temporary urban garden, please contact Fabric on 01274 370291 or by email. You can also keep up to date and get involved on the BUG Facebook page.
