The Great Outdoors

For walkers, the Bradford District offers tremendous diversity. The rugged moors of Haworth and Ilkley Moor contrast with superb countryside rambles across Brontë Country whilst family walks alongside the Leeds/Liverpool Canal mix leisure and history for a great day out. For more serious walkers the nearby Yorkshire Dales provide a glorious combination of challenge and breathtaking natural beauty. Three of Britain's other national park areas - The Peak District, The Lake District, and Snowdonia - are just an hour or two away making Bradford one of the most convenient cities in the UK for outdoor enthusiasts.

Bradford's great outdoors also plays host to a range of other increasingly popular adventurous pursuits. Home to some of the best gritstone climbing in the country, the local area is rich in crags with excellent climbing, abseiling and caving stretching into the Yorkshire Dales. Windsurfing, orienteering, hang-gliding, microlight flying, ballooning and fishing are all available in the Bradford District.

Wide green open spaces are a feature of life in Bradford so it's perhaps no surprise to discover that we have over forty large parks, woodland areas and 100 smaller recreational grounds covering over 1,500 hectares. The District's park facilities include bowling, putting, tennis courts, aviaries, flower gardens and woodland walks together with family walks and nature trails.
