Census

The Census for England and Wales began in 1801 and has been taken every ten years since then with the exception of 1941 (World War Two). Census returns from 1841-1911 give details of individuals listed at a specific address. The 1911 Census is the latest available for public consultation, as the information remains confidential for 100 years.

All libraries in the Bradford Metropolitan District now have online subscriptions to Ancestrylibrary.com and findmypast.co.uk, which provide free access for all customers to the 1841-1911 Censuses for the whole country, searchable by surname. The 1911 Census is also searchable by address at findmypast.co.uk.

The 2001 Census (statistics only) is available online at www.ons.gov.uk/ons/guide-method/census/census-2001/index.html

and data gathered from the 2011 Census is being released in stages throughout 2012
