Summer Reading Challenge
The summer reading challenge is a national scheme to encourage primary age children to continue to read throughout the summer holidays. Research has shown that children who continue to read throughout the summer return to school with maintained or improved reading levels.
Each year there is a different theme. All our libraries will be involved in the summer reading challenge. Everyone who joins receives free incentives along the way. These usually include a folder to record books read, stickers and bookmarks, as well as for example wristbands, door hangers, bag tags and yoyos to collect.
Every child who reads at least 6 books will receive a certificate and their very own medal. Fantastic to take back to school in September to impress your teachers. The summer reading challenge is supported throughout our libraries with lots of free summer activities and events related to the theme.
