Central Library is Open – update
We thank all our customers for their patience during this time. Central Library is open. However customers cannot currently access any floor above floor one.
This means that the following services are unavailable:
- Meeting rooms
- Public lifts
- Public toilets
Disabled Access
There will be no disabled access to the first floor. People with disabilities will have priority access to 2 computers on the ground floor and may ask staff at reception to retrieve specific items from the media library on the first floor.

- Public PCs/Internet access
- Learning Zone
- Children's and Young Peoples Library operating as normal

Non Fiction
A selection of non fiction is now available on the ground floor.
Local Studies
A small selection of local history material is available, and enquiries are dealt with in the learning zone on the first floor.
Local Studies can now offer customers access on demand to the following material:
Bradford Trade Directories.
Electoral Rolls 1847-2002 and then the current year.
Newspapers on microfilm which are instantly accessible are:
Bradford Daily Telegraph 1868 -1927.
Bradford Daily Argus 1892-1927.
Bradford Telegraph and Argus 1927 to date.
All other newspapers may be pre-ordered please see our Local newspapers list.
Please contact the library staff to book a film viewer or use of the reader printer, as,regretfully they are in great demand and this will avoid disappointment when you visit.
Bradford and Yorkshire card catalogues are available to local and family historians to research and pre-order material for collection /within two days.
Please note: Reference items may not be borrowed
We have no access to our map collections at present.

West Yorkshire Archives
West Yorkshire Archive Service Bradford search room is located within the Learning Zone and is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9.30am to 5.00pm
Microfiche Parish Register collections are currently not available at Bradford Local Studies Library. They are available WYAS Calderdale, Leeds and Wakefield offices and at Kirklees Local Studies Library. Many of the Parish Registers are also indexed and fully searchable on ancestry.co.uk including Marriages 1754 to 1935, Baptisms 1815 to 1910 and Burials 1815 to 1985.
Business and Reference
Enquiries will be dealt with at an information point in the ground floor fiction library. Scanning/fax service available.
