Marriage Bonds and Allegations
- These were required when people married by licence rather than by banns. The licence would have been kept by the couple who were to marry, but the allegation, a statement made by the intending bride and groom, and the bond, assurances by bondsmen (usually friends or relatives), were kept at the Diocesan Registry.
- Those for the Diocese of York, covering the years 1660 to 1950, are at the Borthwick Institute.
