Directories
These describe a place and list its principal inhabitants, their occupations and frequently their addresses. They can be used, as can the Burgess Rolls, to ascertain some addresses at the time of the census. They often include the dates when churches and chapels were founded, and the administrative areas in which places were situated. There are various directories for Bradford, the clothing district or the West Riding from 1792. A list of those in the Reference Library is available.
