Community Play and Activities Development Unit LogoThe Community Play & Activities Development Unit, part of Bradford Council’s Leisure Services - Department of Culture, Tourism & Sport. The Unit:

  • Develops, delivers, supports and resources play provision for children and young people aged 5 to 18 years of all backgrounds and abilities across the district.
  • Raises the standard of play provision by developing a range of social, cultural, educational and positive play activities throughout Bradford district.

What the Unit Provides…

For Children and Young People

You can take part in fun activities with your friends in your local area during school holidays and throughout the year. There is a huge range of provision to help you stay active, including play, games, arts and crafts, inflatable fun, storytelling, dance, drama, sports coaching, fun day trips and much more!

For Parents

We provide access to affordable quality child care, of nationally recognised standards, in neighbourhoods and communities throughout the Bradford district. Schemes registered with our Unit offer a wide range of physical and educational activities based around safe play, the environment and healthy living.

The benefits of registering your Holiday Play & Activity Scheme with the Unit include access to:-

For Local Community Groups

We can provide, for a short term loan, a wide variety of inclusive play resources and sports equipment, including co-operative and team building games, a badge/key ring maker, etc. (either free of charge, or for a small fee).

National Play Day
(Part of National Play Week)

An annual event organised in partnership with Voluntary / Community / Statutory Sector organisations, that takes place the first Wednesday in August, celebrating every child’s right to ‘Play’. Hosted at Baildon Recreation Centre, Baildon Play Day is the flagship of five events held across the Bradford district, during play week, each year attracting well in excess of 1000 children and young people from across the district. This is a national event that provides children, young people and communities with the opportunity to experience challenging and adventurous play activities. The day unites children from diverse backgrounds right across the district promoting open access inclusive play. For further information contact The Play Network (Bradford) on 01274 621534.

Valley Parade Memorial Tournament

The tournament is a sporting tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragedy, promoting ‘friendship through football’ and fostering good relationships between young people, their families and clubs. An annual junior football tournament - commemorating the Bradford City fire disaster of 1985 - takes place at Marley Activities and Coaching Centre in Keighley every year, during the Easter weekend. The tournament hosts local, national and international teams in Under 12’s, Under 14’s and women’s competitions.
