Reading Groups
Do you like to talk about books?
Do you enjoy meeting new people?
Would you like suggestions of what to read next?
Then why not start or join a book group? We have groups in a number of libraries and other venues across the district. Most of our groups read contemporary fiction, which has often been described as challenging. They meet monthly but have a break over the summer months. Meetings tend to last around an hour, but we have found that it is often difficult for people to stop talking, especially if it has been a challenging read! In our experience the best books for discussion are those when people are divided on their opinion! If everybody has enjoyed a book then it’s not much fun! Most groups read 2 books a month, which are provided by the library service and members swap half way through the month. Contact details for existing groups.

What people have said they enjoy about being part of a group:
- It has made me read things I would never have read otherwise
- I have found some favourite authors AND it makes me read more…
- I enjoy the discussions far more than I imagined, I often want to read the book again!
- I’ve met some great people and made new friends
- I have had my ideas challenged
- I was in a rut before and just read the same old stuff, this has transformed my reading - and my life!
- It’s given me a new social life. I found I loved it when an author visited our group and now regularly go to Book Festivals and book shop events with authors.
