What can the owner do?
The Council works with the owners of empty properties and other agencies to try and get unoccupied property back into use. There are a wide range of options available to the owner including:
- Occupying the property themselves
- Selling the property on to an owner occupier or other person who may let the property e.g. a private Landlord or Housing Association
- Letting the property themselves, or through a Property Letting Agent.
Where at all possible the Council also take steps to ensure that empty homes are secure to prevent access by those displaying illegal or anti-social behaviour.
