Welcome to the rented houses section of the website which provides information for private Landlords and Tenants about the private rented sector.

On these pages you will find information and advice on all aspects of rented houses, information about tenancies, requirements for rented properties, what to do if problems occur during a tenancy and responsibilities and rights of landlords and tenants.
In addition there are advice pages on the Housing Act 2004 which came into force in April 2006 and which brought in may major changes that affect properties in the private rented sector including a new way of assessing houses (Housing Health and Safety Rating System), Mandatory Licensing of some Houses in Multiple Occupation, Tenancy Deposit Schemes and new enforcement powers for Local Authorities to deal with substandard housing.
