Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
To meet the ever-changing needs of services and the demand for higher standards, it is essential that we all update our skills and knowledge and demonstrate continuous professional development.
By building a CPD portfolio you can provide a record of your professional and personal development for appraisals, progression, interviews, etc.
It is your responsibility to keep the portfolio up to date and safe.
As part of the national registration arrangements in social care, the General Social Care Council (GSCC) checks for evidence of continuous professional development of 15 days over 3 years (CPD) to meet the requirements for social workers.
There is a similar requirement for NVQ/Level 3 qualified staff to evidence 3 days of CPD every year. For staff in Children's Residential & Respite Services, National Minimum Standards require a minimum of 6 days CPD every year.
