Forced Marriages and The Welfare Of Young People

This course is designed to enable people who may meet with this situation in their jobs to understand the issues around this topic.
The day will explain the needs of young people in various situations involving forced marriages (as opposed to arranged marriages) and will cover Practice Guidelines and the Bradford Safeguarding Children Board Protocol so that participants will learn what the response to these situations ought to be. There will be input from guest speakers to clarify and explain certain aspects.
What does the course cover?
- The differences between arranged marriages and forced marriages
- The cultural background.
- Intervention strategies
- The role of the Police and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
- The role of the Agencies, particularly Children’s Social Care
- The consequences of intervention
